How To Clean A Levoit Air Purifier Machine And Filter
Levoit air purifiers are great when they are new. You can usually feel a difference in the quality of your air. However, if you don’t know how to keep your air purifier clean, it can stop working well. The result can be stuffier air, more noise and even strange odors. If you want fully clean a Levoit air purifier the right way, you need to know how to clean the exterior, interior, sensor and air filter parts.
Cleaning The Outside Of Your Levoit Air Purifier
Always unplug your Levoit air purifier before any type of cleaning. Ideally you would use a soft and dry cloth to completely wipe down the exterior of the machine. If something is really stuck onto the machine and you feel the need to use a damp cloth, be sure to dry it right away. Water can cause damage to the unit. Never use any type of abrasive or flammable cleaning chemicals.
How To Clean The Inside Of Your Levoit Air Purifier
Remove the cover and open up your air purifier. Take out the filter from the housing. Use a vacuum to clean out any dust, hair or debris from the inside of the machine. Never use any type of abrasive or flammable cleaning chemicals.
Cleaning The Levoit Air Purifier Sensor
A clean air purifier sensor is critical for most Levoit machines to work correctly. Unfortunately, these can often end up blocked by dust. That is why it is recommended that you clean your air purifier sensor every 3 months. If your machine is used in a high dust environment, you should do it more often.
For the Core 300s / 400s / 600s models, the sensor is located on the back of the air purifier above the power cord close to the middle of the unit. Just take your vacuum cleaner and place it over the sensor openings. Leave it there for at least 10 seconds to thoroughly clean out any dust.
For the LV-131 and LV-133 models, the sensor is located behind a cover. Locate and open up the cover. Take a cotton swab and dip it into water. Use it to gently clean the sensor lens. Wipe it dry with a new and dry cotton swab. Never remove the foam piece attached to the dust sensor cover.
The Vital 100 and LV-132 models do not have a sensor that needs to be cleaned.
How To Clean & Replace Your Levoit Air Filter
Levoit advises that you clean only the outer pre-filter every 2 to 4 weeks. This will help it maintain maximum efficiency while also extending the life of your filter. You should not attempt to clean the HEPA filter itself. The activated carbon filter does not need cleaning. Once you have removed the filter from the housing, use only a soft brush or a vacuum hose to get rid of any dust, debris or hair that you can see on the pre-filter. Never use water or any other liquid to clean your pre-filter. Any dampness or moisture will permanently damage it.
Levoit also says that the air filter should be replaced every 6 to 8 months because they can accumulate dust and toxins and get clogged. Regularly replacing your filter is a very important way to help keep your Levoit air purifier clean. Most Levoit air purifier models will have a ‘Check Filter’ indicator light that will turn red to let you know when your filter needs to be changed. Genuine Levoit Air Filter Replacements vs Knock Off Brands
My advice is to always use a genuine Levoit air purifier filter replacement for best results. They may be a little more expensive than the generic copy cat products that claim to be compatible with your air purifier, but you know that they will work. With knock off products not made by Levoit, you run the risk that they won’t fit properly in the unit, may not work as well and may not last as long. Save yourself the hassle and get a Levoit branded replacement filter first.
