Can Your Vitamix Blender Go In The Dishwasher?

There are only a few Vitamix blenders that have dishwasher safe parts. If you don’t have one of them, you cannot put any of the parts in the dishwasher. Keep reading to learn the best way to care for your Vitamix blender.

Which Vitamix Blender Parts Are Dishwasher Safe?

Most Vitamix blenders do not have any dishwasher safe parts. However, there are two series (Ascent and Personal) that do have a few dishwasher safe parts. Find your model below.

Vitamix Ascent Series Blenders (A2300/2500 or A3300/3500)

If you have one of the four Vitamix Ascent series blenders, then some of your parts can go in the dishwasher. The Vitamix Ascent lids, lid plug, centering pad and tamper are all top rack dishwasher safe. You can not put the container in the dishwasher. It will have to be cleaned by hand.

Personal Series Vitamix Blenders (S30 & S55)

If you have a Vitamix personal series blender like the S30 or S55, many parts are top rack dishwasher safe. You can clean the container, tamper, spill proof vented lid, container, blade base, flip top dishwasher lid, and seals in the dishwasher. Be sure to only put them in the top rack! Putting any of these pieces on a lower rack may damage them.

All Other Vitamix Blenders (Legacy Series)

If you don’t have an Ascent or Personal Vitamix blender, unfortunately your Vitamix blender parts can not go in the dishwasher. The user manuals for all other models say that you must clean the blender parts by hand or using the “self cleaning” method described below.

How Do You Clean Vitamix Blender Container Without The Dishwasher?

Your Vitamix container can be cleaned without removing the retainer nut and blade assembly. Just follow the steps described below. All you need is a little bit of dish soap.

  1. Rinse out the container with warm water. Use a non-abrasive sponge to remove any ingredients that are stuck on the sides of the containers. Be sure to avoid touching the sharp blades at the bottom.
  2. Fill the Vitamix container half way with warm water. Add two drops of dish soap.
  3. Put the lid on the blender container and place it on the blender base.
  4. Turn the blender on. Slowly increase variable speed to the highest setting. If your machine has a “high” switch, you can even flip that on once you’ve reached the highest variable setting.
  5. Run the machine for 30 to 60 seconds. You’ll see that the water and dishwashing liquid starts to foam up.
  6. Flip the “high” switch off (if applicable). Turn the variable speed dial back to the lowest setting. Turn the blender off.
  7. Rinse and drain all pieces.

Do not try to remove the retainer nut or blade assembly from the container under any circumstances. If anything remains stuck on your blades after the cleaning cycle, try using a long, non-abrasive brush to scrub it off. You can also follow the steps below to sanitize your Vitamix container and blades for a deep clean.

How Do You Sanitize A Vitamix Blender Container?

If your Vitamix blender needs a deep clean, you can substitute the dishwashing liquid with some liquid bleach. This will sanitize your blender container.

  • Rinse out the container with warm water. Use a non-abrasive sponge to remove any ingredients that are stuck on the sides of the containers. Be sure to avoid touching the sharp blades at the bottom.
  • Fill the Vitamix container half way with warm water. Add 1.5 teaspoons of liquid bleach.
  • Put the lid on the blender container and place it on the blender base.
  • Turn the blender on. Slowly increase variable speed to the highest setting. If your machine has a “high” switch, you can even flip that on once you’ve reached the highest variable setting.
  • Run the machine for 30 to 60 seconds. You’ll see that the water and dishwashing liquid starts to foam up.
  • Flip the “high” switch off (if applicable). Turn the variable speed dial back to the lowest setting. Turn the blender off.
  • Let the water and liquid bleach mixture stand in the container for 90 seconds.
  • Pour out the mixture and allow the container to air dry.
  • Ideally you would not rinse it right away. Before you use your Vitamix again, run a basic cleaning cycle as described above using only dish soap.
